Sultan of Sokoto Denies Endorsing President Tinubu for 2027 Election

The media team of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, issued a statement on Tuesday refuting circulating social‑media reports that he had endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. Signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the statement called the claim “false and misleading” and described it as a “malicious and unpatriotic attempt to drag the revered personality of the Sultan into partisan politics.” It emphasized that the Sultan, as a traditional and spiritual father figure to all Nigerians, “cannot make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum.” The team urged the public and journalists to disregard the rumor, verify information before sharing, and avoid linking the monarchy and religious institution with political campaigns. The Sultan reaffirmed his commitment to national peace, unity, stability and coexistence across Nigeria’s diverse peoples and faiths.
