Sultangazi hosts Traditional Sports Festival with 700 athletes

The Traditional Sports Festival, organized by the Sultangazi Municipality in collaboration with the World Ethnosport Union and the Turkish Traditional Sports Branches Federation, took place in Istanbul. The event brought together approximately 700 athletes from 33 different provinces to compete in various traditional disciplines, including table wrestling, tug-of-war, mangala, and various traditional games.

Gürsu 1956 Belediyespor achieved significant success during the festival. The team secured the championship in the tug-of-war competition. In the table wrestling (mas güreşi) category, Gürsu 1956 Belediyespor ranked 4th in Turkey, with individual athletes earning multiple podium finishes in various weight classes.

During the event, Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun highlighted that Sultangazi has been designated as the 2026 European Sports City. He emphasized the role of sports in keeping youth engaged and away from negative influences. Additionally, the municipality announced plans to host the International Karakucak Championship on September 13, which is expected to draw approximately 200 wrestlers from 15 countries.
