Sumapaz hosts 2026 Rural Games for over 1,100 participants
More than 1,100 residents of the Sumapaz locality in southern Bogotá participated in the 2026 Rural Games throughout July and August. The sporting event spanned six different villages to promote healthy living and community integration among rural populations.
As part of the festivities, the Sumapaz Local Mayor's Office organized the inaugural ‘Juegos Ruralitos’ in the Betania village on July 5. This specific event saw 207 children and young people compete in various disciplines, including mountain biking, trail running, indoor soccer, basketball, tejo, and skating.
The broader competition included traditional games such as dominoes, chess, and bolirana, as well as athletic events like the 4x100 meter relay held in the Nazareth village on August 1. The games concluded with physical endurance tests and exhibitions of volleyball, table tennis, and trompo in Betania, despite challenging weather and mountainous terrain.
