Padang flash floods affect hundreds and damage homes in West Sumatra

Heavy rainfall in West Sumatra has triggered flash floods in Padang, affecting several districts including Kuranji, Koto Tangah, and Nanggalo. The flooding has impacted approximately 498 residents and inundated 120 homes. In the Kuranji area, specifically in the Guo region, road access has been cut off, and several houses sustained varying degrees of damage, including one reported as heavily damaged.

Joint search and rescue (SAR) teams, including personnel from the police, military, and local disaster management agencies (BPBD), have been deployed to manage the crisis. To date, 238 residents have been successfully evacuated to safe locations, with priority given to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Emergency response efforts are ongoing, though rescuers have faced challenges due to strong currents and debris-filled waters.

Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reports indicate that while some areas are experiencing high rainfall, many parts of Indonesia are also facing delayed rainy seasons and extreme drought conditions in other regions.
