Sumatra Bus Crash Kills 19, Two Company Directors Named Suspects

A collision between an ALS inter‑regional bus and a fuel‑tank truck on the Sumatra‑Lintas road in Musi Rawas Utara, South Sumatra, left 19 people dead and several injured. Investigators found the bus was overloaded with unauthorized cargo such as furniture and a motorcycle, and that its operating permit had expired.

Police have named two company directors as suspects: Shandi Hermanto, director of PT Sinar Bumi Pertiwi, and Chandra Lubis, director of PT Antar Lintas Sumatera. The suspects are accused of corporate negligence under traffic and criminal law. The investigation involved 47 witnesses from local authorities, road agencies, transport experts and oil‑industry officials.
