Sumatra Governor promotes regional economic growth via IMT-GT

Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah has highlighted the strategic importance of Sumatra in strengthening regional economic growth. Speaking at the 32nd Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Ministerial Meeting in Medan, Mahyeldi noted that the region possesses significant assets, including production bases, markets, natural resources, logistics networks, and geographic proximity to other ASEAN nations.

Mahyeldi emphasized that these potentials must be linked through inter-regional cooperation to enhance Sumatra's competitiveness on a global scale. He urged member regions to optimize their respective strengths to ensure collaboration provides tangible benefits for community welfare.

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian also participated, urging that IMT-GT cooperation move beyond high-level dialogue and into concrete, measurable projects. He suggested strengthening inter-regional ties through sister city and sister province concepts between Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
