Sumatran elephant found dead in Aceh Tamiang plantation

A Sumatran elephant was found dead in a palm oil plantation in Kampung Kaloy, Tamiang Hulu District, Aceh Tamiang Regency, on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The carcass was discovered by local residents lying in the middle of a road between palm trees.

The cause of death is currently unknown. Teuku Irmansyah, Head of Conservation Section I of the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), confirmed that officers from the Langsa Resort KSDA were deployed to the location following the report. Local village head Andi noted that police are also attending the site, though access to the location is hindered by damaged roads.
