Sumedang chayote farmers expand market reach to major cities

Chayote farming in Cibugel, Sumedang, has become a significant economic driver for the local community. In the Cibubut area of Jayamekar Village, farmers are successfully supplying produce to major cities including Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bogor.

Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir highlighted the success of millennial farmers, specifically noting Ridwan, a 30-year-old grower. Ridwan’s operations reach a scale where approximately 10 tons of chayote are sent to Bogor alone each day. From a business perspective, the cost to manage one ton of chayote is roughly Rp11 million, with sales reaching Rp12.5 million, contributing to local employment and regional prosperity.
