Sumedang promotes Batik as cultural identity and economic driver
Sumedang Regency is working to transform local Batik into a strong regional identity and a leading economic product. During the closing of the 'Sumedang Membatik 2026' event, Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir emphasized the importance of providing creative spaces for artisans and the younger generation to innovate and preserve cultural heritage.
The initiative, supported by Member of Parliament Galih Dimuntur Kartasasmita, aims to ensure the continuity of batik making by motivating young people to enter the craft.
To remain competitive in the modern era, batik MSMEs are encouraged to transition from traditional methods to digital markets. Strategies include utilizing social media and marketplaces, as well as leveraging the unique cultural stories behind specific motifs to differentiate products from competitors. Using SWOT analysis, small businesses can address challenges such as limited capital and digital literacy while capitalizing on the growing opportunities of online commerce.
