Sumire Uesaka cancels event appearances following death threats

Japanese voice actress Sumire Uesaka has canceled her scheduled appearances at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair (Kyomafu) 2026 following serious death threats. The event, set for September 19 and 20, was to feature Uesaka in four different stages, including opening and closing ceremonies.

Her management agency, VOICE KIT, reported receiving multiple malicious threatening emails. The threats included specific claims of kidnapping and murder by September 27, as well as indications that the perpetrator had identified her current residence. The agency has consulted with local police and requested an investigation.

To prioritize her safety, Uesaka will refrain from posting on social media personally for the time being; all future updates will be handled by staff. The agency has also requested that the public refrain from speculation or attempting to identify the accounts responsible for the threats.
