Sumit Roy undergoes second day of CID interrogation in land fraud case

Sumit Roy, a close aide and personal assistant to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, has appeared for a second consecutive day of interrogation by the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The questioning, which took place at the CID headquarters in South Kolkata, is related to an alleged illegal land-grabbing case involving government-vested land in the Salboni area of West Midnapore district.

Roy had previously been untraceable for several weeks, leading to an arrest warrant and a lookout notice. However, he secured interim protection from the Supreme Court, which mandated that he cooperate with the investigation. Following his arrival at the CID office on Sunday, Roy stated that he was following all directions issued by the Supreme Court and dismissed allegations of financial irregularities as "baseless."

The investigation also involves scrutiny of alleged forged documents used in land deals and potential financial transactions involving former TMC MLA Sujoy Hazra. Roy faces multiple FIRs, including separate allegations regarding a job-for-money racket in Debra.
