Sumitomo Forestry wins nine Wood Design Awards for 2026
Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. has received nine awards at the Wood Design Award 2026, marking the company's 12th consecutive year of recognition since the award's inception in 2015.
The awards span three primary categories: architecture and space, technology and building materials, and communication. Notable achievements include a large-scale wooden restaurant in Karuizawa that utilizes the company's Big Frame (BF) construction method to balance carbon sequestration with high thermal insulation. In the technology sector, a collaboration with Okuma Corp. and Nidahara Joinery Works resulted in modernizing traditional 'Okawa Kumiko' woodworking into mass-producible, easy-to-maintain interior fittings.
Additionally, the company was recognized for its research library, which provides scientific evidence regarding the health and environmental benefits of wooden environments. These initiatives align with Sumitomo Forestry's 'Mission TREEING 2030' long-term vision, which aims to promote decarbonization through a sustainable wood cycle and the widespread adoption of wooden architecture.
