Sumitomo Mitsui Banking integrates PayPay balance checking into mobile apps

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Card have launched a new integration feature allowing users to check PayPay balances and PayPay points directly within the SMBC and Vpass mobile applications. This initiative is part of a broader digital business alliance with SoftBank.

The integration allows for seamless transitions between the banking apps and the PayPay app to facilitate QR code payments and balance management. While the current update focuses on balance visibility, future plans include the introduction of a ‘PayPay mode’ for Olive Flexible Pay. This upcoming feature will allow users to use their prepaid PayPay balances for payments at Visa merchants worldwide.

This development follows previous collaborative efforts between the entities, such as the mutual exchange of V Points and PayPay Points, and the removal of transfer fees from PayPay balances to SMBC accounts.
