Summer 2026 anime trends show major franchise dominance and late-season growth

Data analysis of the Summer 2026 anime season reveals a landscape dominated by major franchise returns and significant shifts in viewer engagement over the first four weeks of broadcasting.

Initial trend scores, measured by Google search volume, were led by Mushoku Tensei III, which saw a massive launch comparable to the previous season's top performer. Other high-performing titles in the first week included Ghost in the Shell and BLEACH, creating a clear top tier of established intellectual properties. Among new IPs, Tenmaku no Jardugal emerged as a leading title.

However, engagement patterns shifted by the fourth week. While major series maintained high visibility, certain titles experienced significant growth in popularity after their initial release. Yanineko saw its trend score increase by 250% compared to its first week, and Sayonara Lara saw fan engagement on X (formerly Twitter) more than double.

In terms of musical impact, listener surveys highlight various standout opening themes, including SEKAI NO OWARI’s ‘Stella’ for Tenmaku no Jardugal and Nana Mizuki’s ‘CRIMSON BULLET’ for Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance.
