Summer Care Guidelines for Hydrangeas and Daisies

Hydrangeas, a popular summer ornamental shrub, can suffer rapid moisture loss during heat waves. Gardeners are advised to check soil moisture at depths of 15–20 cm, using a screwdriver or metal rod, to ensure roots receive water. Slow, deep watering—such as placing a bucket with small holes at the base of the plant—delivers moisture more efficiently than frequent light sprinklings, especially in sandy soils. Providing temporary shade during the hottest afternoon hours with shade cloth or light fabric can also prevent leaf scorching.

The common daisy (Bellis perennis) is a native European wildflower that thrives in lawns, parks, and containers. Its small, white‑petaled flowers open in the morning and close at night, a habit that has inspired folk symbolism linking the daisy to hope, purity, renewal and, in some traditions, happiness. Because it is hardy and easy to grow, the daisy is frequently used in garden beds, balcony pots and decorative arrangements.
