Summer CEmp event in Lousã discusses EU future

The 8th edition of Summer CEmp, a summer school organized by the European Commission's representation in Portugal, is taking place in Lousã. The event marks 40 years of Portugal's membership in the European Union and brings together approximately 40 young students from across the country to debate the future of Europe.

During the sessions, Portuguese ministers Margarida Balseiro Lopes and Paulo Rangel engaged with the participants regarding current affairs and European integration. Balseiro Lopes emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, while advocating for the creation of conditions to foster long-term cultural engagement.

Former EU High Representative Federica Mogherini addressed the youth, expressing concern over the potential dismantling of the rules-based international system. She warned that rising populism and a shift away from multilateralism could lead to a world governed by 'the law of the strongest,' potentially threatening the stability of the European Union itself.
