Summer Eternal announces Red Rooster RPG from former Disco Elysium developers
Summer Eternal, a new game development studio composed of former ZA/UM staff, has announced its debut project, an “incendiary RPG” titled Red Rooster. The studio includes prominent creators from Disco Elysium, such as writer Argo Tuulik, Dora Klindžić, Anastasia Ivanova, and Michael Oswell, along with narrator Lenval Brown.
Red Rooster is described as a physics-driven, immersive sim-style RPG set in a fictional archipelago called Arta-Tantor. The game features a world inspired by a blend of 1980s Yugoslavian culture, Ottoman influences, Scandinavian social democracies, and the Dutch colonial empire. Players take on the role of Redrick Roost, a white-collar inmate turned arson investigator, who works alongside an opiate-dependent mathematician to solve a series of fires linked to his brother, the local fire chief.
Developed using Unreal Engine, the game emphasizes a highly reactive environment where players can move, break, and burn objects. The studio aims to combine deep, cerebral world-building with a sandbox experience where physical interactions have consequences. The announcement was made via a 500-page physical anthology that explores the game's setting and the cultural impacts of the video game industry.
