Summer festivals bring hundreds together in Calais and Flers, France

Around 22 July, the neighbourhood committee of Nouvelle‑France in Calais organized a free summer fête in the new Ovide park. Several hundred families enjoyed inflatable structures, a ball pool, archery, duck‑fishing, pétanque, darts and creative workshops, with entertainment provided by singer‑actress Apolline.

On 18 July, the Conseil de citoyens held a community evening in the Saint‑Michel district of Flers (Orne). Residents gathered around shared‑garden activities, sports games, a kermesse and a barbecue. The event featured the inauguration of a new table built from reclaimed beds and wardrobes by the local recyclery Les Fourmis Vertes; Benoît Dagobert explained the challenge of working with recycled material, saying, “On ne part pas de zéro, mais de ‑10.” Council president Jérémy Prévost stressed the importance of urban greening and citizen participation.

Both events were organized by local committees to foster inter‑generational interaction and strengthen neighbourhood ties through free, inclusive activities.
