Summer hair‑care mistakes risk scalp burns and breakage

Health experts warn that common summer habits can damage both skin and hair. Women often apply sunscreen only once, forget to protect the scalp, use perfume that reacts with sunlight, skip rinsing hair after sea or pool exposure, drink insufficient water, sleep with wet hair, and neglect restorative night care. These errors may cause sunburned scalp, dry brittle hair, pigment spots and dehydration.

Additional advice highlights two specific harmful practices: using olive oil as a sun‑protectant, which can attract UV rays and dry hair, and leaving salt crystals in hair after swimming, which crystallises and leads to breakage. Recommended actions include re‑applying sunscreen every two hours, covering the scalp with a hat, rinsing hair with clean water and a sulfate‑free shampoo, avoiding olive oil for sun protection, using hydrating masks and serums, and keeping hydrated throughout the day.
