Summer health and environmental safety warnings

Health specialists are warning about the risks associated with lifestyle changes during the summer vacation season. Dr. Ramón Ríos, head of Cardiology at Hospital Universitario Lucus Augusti, has identified a condition known as “holiday heart syndrome.” This arrhythmia, characterized by palpitations or irregular heartbeats, is directly linked to excessive alcohol consumption during holidays and social gatherings.

Other contributing factors include inadequate rest and the loss of essential minerals such as potassium, sodium, and magnesium due to heat-induced dehydration. While environmental heat alone may not cause heart attacks in healthy arteries, it can trigger serious episodes in individuals with pre-existing risk factors or arterial fat.

In a separate context regarding summer activities, environmental organizations are urging responsible behavior in natural spaces. To protect biodiversity and avoid legal sanctions, experts recommend that visitors avoid leaving food or trash, refrain from disturbing wildlife—particularly bears—and maintain a respectful distance from animals to ensure both personal safety and environmental conservation.
