Summer health trends: Allergic rhinitis and mosquito attraction
Recent health insights highlight common summer discomforts, ranging from allergic rhinitis to mosquito attraction. Allergic rhinitis, affecting approximately one in four to five people, can escalate during summer due to increased humidity, mold growth in air conditioners, and exposure to weed and grass pollens.
Simultaneously, research published in the journal iScience suggests that human skin microbiomes play a significant role in why certain individuals are more prone to mosquito bites. By studying approximately 120 volunteers, researchers found that different mosquito species, including Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus, react differently to the unique chemical signatures created by the combination of human secretions and skin bacteria.
