Summer Nutrition Guidance Emphasizes Apples and Watermelon

Nutrition experts note that apples remain a valuable summer food, offering dietary fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants. Combining sliced apple with nuts such as almonds, walnuts or hazelnuts, or with Greek yogurt, creates a balanced snack that sustains energy, supports immunity and helps keep blood‑sugar levels stable.

Separate guidance warns that consuming large quantities of watermelon can cause digestive upset, raise blood‑glucose levels, and increase risks of liver inflammation, over‑hydration, electrolyte imbalance and cardiovascular strain due to its high sorbitol, lycopene and potassium content. Moderate intake is recommended, especially for people with diabetes, liver concerns or kidney‑related potassium sensitivities.
