Summer prep: how to store winter shoes and do low‑intensity outdoor workouts

As temperatures rise, Italian experts advise cleaning and properly storing winter footwear to prevent mold, odors and shape loss. Shoes should be thoroughly cleaned, fully air‑dried, and kept in breathable containers with paper or shaped supports to maintain their form. Storing them in dry, ventilated spaces—avoiding sealed plastic or damp basements—helps preserve leather, suede and technical fabrics for the next cold season.

For fitness, low‑intensity steady‑state (LISS) exercise is recommended over high‑intensity HIIT during hot weather. LISS workouts burn calories while keeping heart rate moderate, reducing the risk of heat‑related health issues. Sample outdoor circuits include body‑weight exercises such as split squats, bench presses, step‑ups, push‑ups, planks and core routines, performed slowly and with ample rest in shaded or breezy areas. These routines help maintain muscle tone and cardiovascular health without overexertion in the heat.
