Summer Skin and Hair Care: Ingredients and Tips to Avoid Sun‑Induced Irritation

Dermatologists advise using lighter cosmetic formulas during hot weather and avoiding ingredients that increase sun sensitivity. Retinol and other vitamin‑A derivatives can cause redness and peeling, while alpha‑hydroxy acids (AHA) heighten UV vulnerability. Benzoyl peroxide may dry skin and irritate under sunlight. Heavy, oil‑rich creams can clog pores in humid conditions. Instead, apply products containing PHA, salicylic acid or niacinamide, choose high‑SPF sunscreens and opt for gel‑type moisturisers.

For hair, reduce washing frequency to every two‑to‑three days, apply conditioner from mid‑length to ends, and use nourishing masks weekly. Trim split ends regularly and apply a few drops of oil only to tips. Protect hair from UV exposure with sunscreen sprays, hats or scarves, and select gentle formulations for colored hair to prevent fading.
