Summer Walker sues LVRN for fraud and financial misconduct
R&B singer Summer Walker is embroiled in multiple legal disputes involving her record labels. She has filed a lawsuit against the Atlanta-based Love Renaissance Records (LVRN), alleging fraud, breach of contract, and financial misconduct. The 10-page complaint claims LVRN withheld funds intended for her tours, marketing, and recordings, and failed to compensate her for merchandise sales on Amazon featuring her name and likeness. Walker also alleges the label improperly managed her YouTube channel and deleted vital historical data.
Walker’s attorney, Keith Moten, stated that the primary goal is to terminate her agreement with LVRN. This legal action follows a separate dispute with Interscope Records. Interscope has reportedly sought over $50 million in damages, claiming Walker is contractually obligated to deliver more studio albums. Walker has attempted to terminate her agreement with Interscope by citing California’s seven-year rule, which limits the duration of personal services contracts.
Reports indicate Walker’s original 2017 agreement included an $85,000 advance and a 15% royalty rate, terms that industry professionals have criticized as unfavorable for an emerging artist.
