Summerland Jets and Oliver Outlaws prepare for junior hockey debuts
The Summerland Jets are set to begin their inaugural season in the British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) with a home opener against the Osoyoos Coyotes on Friday, Sept. 18. The event at Summerland Arena will include a community tailgate featuring live music and special guests, including three-time Stanley Cup winner Andy Moog, former Hockey Canada CEO Bob Nicholson, and former Canadian women’s national team coach Nancy Wilson.
The opening night also serves as a tribute to the first responders and firefighters who managed the Bald Range wildfire in August. A ceremonial puck drop will involve local leaders, including Summerland Mayor Doug Holmes and Chiefs Greg Gabriel and Frank Antoine. Fans will participate in a tribute by signing a banner for the community heroes.
Separately, the Oliver Outlaws, an expansion team in the Western International Junior Hockey League (WIJHL), are scheduled to play their first three franchise games from Sept. 18 to 20, beginning with a home game against the Kelowna Chiefs.
