Summerween trend grows as Halloween celebrations expand into summer months
The concept of ‘Summerween’—celebrating Halloween-themed activities during the summer months—is emerging as a significant consumer trend, particularly among younger demographics. According to a report from Mars, Gen Z consumers show a 63% engagement rate with Summerween, more than double that of the general population. Key activities for this group include baking Halloween treats, hosting themed parties, and decorating homes during the peak summer season.
Data indicates that Halloween is evolving into a prolonged retail season in the United States, which is a $13 billion holiday. Approximately 57% of U.S. adults view Halloween as a full season rather than a single day, and 66% of adults report they would purchase Halloween candy year-round. While Gen Z leads the trend, 48% of millennials also participate in the expanded holiday period.
Local communities are also seeing an uptick in early seasonal activities. In regions like Grays Harbor, events such as circus-themed horror spectacles, horror book sales, and pumpkin-related activities are being scheduled to meet the growing interest in spooky-themed entertainment.
