Summit County selects mountain-inspired design for Kimball Junction bridge
The Summit County Council has unanimously selected a mountain-inspired design for a new pedestrian bridge in Kimball Junction, Utah. The project, which will span State Route 224 near the Ute Boulevard intersection, aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety ahead of the 2034 Winter Olympics.
Known as Concept B, the chosen design mimics a mountain landscape with beams that jut into the air. The selection follows public feedback from nearly 850 residents. While Concept A was preferred by daily commuters, Concept B received 46% of the total survey responses.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will contribute approximately $4.5 million to $5 million toward the project, while the county will cover the remaining costs and ongoing maintenance. The total cost is estimated to be between $15 million and $20 million, with construction expected to begin in 2028.
