Sumo: Kirishima's promotion hopes fade as Atamifuji nears Ozeki rank

In the ongoing sumo tournament, Ozeki Kirishima faces a significant setback after suffering his third loss to Hinonami. This defeat effectively ends his chances for promotion to Yokozuna this tournament, as no wrestler has achieved three losses by the eighth day and still secured promotion since the 15-day format was established in 1949.

Meanwhile, Sekiwake Atamifuji has secured his winning record (kachi-koshi) by defeating Ozeki Kotozakura. Atamifuji currently holds an 8-2 record and is four wins away from meeting the standard criteria for Ozeki promotion, which requires 33 wins over three tournaments in the Sanyaku ranks.

At the top of the leaderboard, Onosato remains the sole leader with a single loss after defeating Takaribun, though he is closely pursued by Kotozakura and Atamifuji.
