Sumo wrestlers intensify training for upcoming Autumn Basho

Sumo wrestlers are intensifying their preparations for the upcoming Autumn Basho, which begins on September 13 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan.

Ozeki Kotozakura resumed full-scale training at his stable in Matsudo, Chiba. During practice sessions, he recorded 11 wins and 4 losses in 15 bouts against opponents including Daieisho, Kotoshoho, and Kotoeho. Kotozakura expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting his ability to maintain pressure and stability at the edge of the ring.

Meanwhile, former Ozeki Asanoyama participated in the Yokozuna Deliberation Council's training inspection (Keiko Soken) at the Sumo Training School in Tokyo. In his first appearance at such an event since the Summer Basho last year, Asanoyama competed in five bouts, finishing with a 3-2 record against wrestlers such as Atamifuji and Hakunofuji. He noted the positive experience of facing energetic younger wrestlers as he prepares for his upcoming tournament.

Other notable developments in the rankings include Kotoeho reaching a career-high position as West Maegashira 1, while Kotoshoho moved to East Maegashira 1.
