Sumsub launches APAC Agentic AI Council to develop governance frameworks
Sumsub has launched the Sumsub Agentic AI Council, an APAC-focused cross-sector forum designed to develop governance frameworks and practical guardrails for the safe adoption of agentic AI. Announced in Singapore, the Council is seeking founding advisors from academia, industry, policy, technology, and civil society ahead of its first meeting scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
The initiative comes as businesses increasingly adopt autonomous systems. Research from Sumsub indicates that 95% of APAC businesses are currently using or piloting multi-step AI systems with limited human input, yet nearly 60% report that these systems have produced unintended outcomes. Additionally, Deloitte reports that approximately 75% of APAC consumers use AI for product research and comparison.
The Council will operate under three primary pillars: Adopt, to identify high-value deployment conditions; Build, to address technical foundations like identity and secure architecture; and Govern, to establish standards and accountability mechanisms. The first working group will focus on agentic commerce, specifically addressing oversight and delegated authority when AI agents act on behalf of users.
