Sun Life Financial posts 41% Q2 profit jump and launches AI platform
Sun Life Financial Inc. reported second‑quarter 2026 profit of $1 billion, a 41% increase from the same period a year earlier. Underlying net income rose 11% to $1.123 billion, while reported earnings per share climbed to $1.81, up 44% year‑over‑year. Underlying earnings per share reached $2.02, a 13% gain, and the company posted an underlying return on equity of 19.1%.
Group insurance sales grew 27% and individual insurance sales rose 16% during the quarter. Assets under management reached $1.696 trillion, up 10% from the prior year. Sun Life also announced the launch of a proprietary agentic AI platform for its technology architecture teams and its founding membership in the AI Consortium, signalling a push to scale AI responsibly across the enterprise.
CEO Kevin Strain highlighted the strong momentum across health, individual protection, and wealth‑management businesses, noting that the firm’s diversified model and capital strength position it for continued growth.
