Sun protection: Proper SPF application and hand care

Proper application of sun protection is critical for achieving the efficacy levels stated on product packaging. Laboratory standards for in vivo SPF testing require a density of 2 mg of cream per 1 cm² of skin. To meet this standard at home, it is recommended to apply approximately 1.25 ml to the face and between 25–30 ml to the entire body. Applying thinner layers significantly reduces the actual protection provided.

In addition to facial care, protecting the hands is essential to prevent premature aging. The skin on the hands is frequently exposed to UV radiation, wind, and detergents, which can lead to wrinkles, dryness, and brown spots. Experts recommend applying SPF 30 or higher to the backs of the hands regularly, especially after washing, and using moisturizers containing glycerin or ceramides to maintain the skin barrier.
