Sun Wukong and Lin Daiyu become viral social media pairing

A viral trend on Chinese social media has paired Sun Wukong, the protagonist of ‘Journey to the West’, with Lin Daiyu, the heroine of ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’. Despite originating from different literary universes, the two characters have become a trending couple described as ‘the anxious girl and the versatile boy’.

Users are utilizing AI technology to create videos and images that depict romantic scenarios between the two. These creative interpretations often play on the stark contrast between Lin Daiyu’s fragile, melancholic nature and Sun Wukong’s optimistic, powerful persona. Some fan theories even attempt to link their origins through mythological connections involving stones and jade.

According to the Global Times, while the pairing may seem unconventional, it has attracted significant attention due to its novelty and romantic appeal, demonstrating the enduring vitality of these classic characters in modern digital culture.
