Sunčana Glavak addresses energy security and digital child safety at EU Parliament
European Parliament Member Sunčana Glavak addressed two distinct policy issues during recent sessions in Strasbourg.
Regarding the cost of living, Glavak argued that short-term subsidies cannot serve as a permanent European energy policy. While noting that Croatia has provided 9.26 billion euros in aid to protect households and businesses, she emphasized the need for structural solutions. She called for increased investment in power grids, renewable energy, and energy storage, while advocating for the inclusion of nuclear energy as a stable, low-carbon source for European energy security. She also highlighted the importance of the Krk LNG terminal in diversifying supply routes.
On the topic of digital safety, Glavak participated in discussions concerning the EU Kids Act. This proposal aims to regulate social media, video platforms, and AI systems to ensure they are safe for children by design. Glavak raised concerns regarding the implementation of age limits and the complexities of parental consent, particularly in cases of divorce, joint custody, or children living with foster parents and guardians. She stressed that the goal should be teaching children to use the internet safely and critically rather than isolating them from digital tools.
