Suncheon City targets October occupancy for new city hall

Suncheon City is entering the final stages of construction for its new city hall, with a goal of sequential occupancy starting in October. The project involves a total investment of 216.5 billion KRW. The new facility will feature a site area of approximately 26,000 square meters and a total floor area of 47,000 square meters, consisting of one basement level and up to six floors above ground.

By September, the city plans to complete trial runs and legal inspections for electrical, mechanical, fire safety, and communication systems. Departments are scheduled to move in sequentially between mid-October and November. Following the move, the city will proceed with the demolition of the current city hall and the development of a central park and underground parking.

Mayor Son Hun-mo recently inspected the construction site to ensure quality and safety standards are met. The building's design, which incorporated citizen feedback during the 2020 design competition, aims to reflect the local natural environment of Suncheon Bay through its green and turquoise exterior. Additionally, a 750-space parking area linked to the Culture Station will be developed to improve accessibility for citizens.
