Sunday Chanda withdraws Kanchibiya election petition
Former Kanchibiya Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has announced the withdrawal of his election petition challenging the results of the 2026 parliamentary election. Chanda stated that while he believed he had justiciable grounds to pursue the legal challenge, he chose to prioritize peace, development, and the collective interests of the Kanchibiya people over his personal political ambitions.
Chanda defended his previous support for Bill 7 and the delimitation exercise that split Kanchibiya into two constituencies, arguing that the move would increase representation and double access to Constituency Development Fund resources. He urged his successor, Sampa Muswema, to collaborate with government and community leaders to ensure continued progress.
In his statement, Chanda emphasized the need for national unity and the rejection of tribalism, noting that development should transcend political affiliations. He also expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his support regarding infrastructure and various projects in the constituency.
