The planned 2027 West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ at the Barbican has been canceled. Empire Street Productions announced the decision following the departures of headline stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey.

Grande, who was set to play the dual roles of Dot and Marie, withdrew from the production in August to take a break from public-facing work following her ‘Eternal Sunshine’ tour. Jonathan Bailey, who was cast as Georges Seurat, announced his exit in September, citing his support for Grande.

While the 2027 production will no longer proceed as scheduled, Empire Street Productions confirmed they will retain the rights to the musical with a view to presenting the production in 2028. Further details regarding the new timeline and casting will be announced in due course.
