Sunderland and Newcastle eye Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo

English clubs Sunderland and Newcastle United are reportedly competing for the signature of Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo. The 25-year-old Mozambican international has emerged as a primary target for Sunderland, who are looking to bolster their attacking depth during the January transfer window.

Sunderland previously attempted to sign Catamo during the summer transfer window with a bid of approximately €40 million. However, Sporting CP maintained a firm stance, requiring the full payment of his €60 million release clause. Despite the previous unsuccessful attempt, Sunderland's recruitment team continues to view him as their top option for the right flank.

Newcastle United has also increased its monitoring of the player, conducting rigorous scouting to potentially formalize a proposal in January. Catamo, who has recorded three goals and four assists this season, reportedly maintains a strong desire to play in English football.
