Sunderland advances to Carabao Cup quarter-finals with 3-2 win over Brentford

Sunderland secured a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals following a dramatic 3-2 victory against Brentford at the Stadium of Light. Despite a heavy rotation by manager Regis Le Bris, who made 11 changes to the starting lineup, the Black Cats established a commanding 3-0 lead within the first 40 minutes.

Chemsdine Talbi opened the scoring in the 26th minute, followed by a goal from Timur Tutierov. Malick Fofana, a recent arrival from Lyon, scored his first goal for the club with a header in the 39th minute, assisted by Ta Bi, who was instrumental in all three goals.

Brentford mounted a comeback attempt, with Callum Wilson scoring just before halftime to make it 3-1. In stoppage time, Igor Thiago scored a header to bring the score to 3-2, but Sunderland held on to win. This victory marks Sunderland's first appearance in the competition's quarter-finals in five years.
