Sunderland negotiate record €30m transfer for Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie

Sunderland have reached an agreement in principle with Toulouse winger Dayann Methalie, a 20‑year‑old left‑back, and are preparing a five‑year contract ahead of the Premier League season. The English club has submitted a bid in the region of €25‑30 million, but Toulouse are holding out for a club‑record fee, reportedly around €30 million, to surpass the recent £27.5 million sale of Emerson to Ipswich Town.

Sunderland’s initial offer of roughly £17 million was rejected, and negotiations have continued for three to four weeks, according to Toulouse president Olivier Cloarec. The French side aims to break its previous transfer record while Sunderland hopes the signing will bolster their squad, with manager Régis Le Bris emphasizing the player’s potential and the club’s ambition.

Both clubs remain in talks over the final fee, with Sunderland’s interest confirmed despite competition from other clubs.
