Chelsea face injury concerns ahead of Sunderland match

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed several injury setbacks ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Players Joao Pedro, Maxence Lacroix, and Jorrel Hato are ruled out, with Hato expected to remain sidelined for several weeks.

There are doubts regarding the availability of midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is being monitored following discomfort, and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who is returning to training in protective headgear after undergoing jaw surgery. A final decision on Martinez’s fitness will be made following training sessions.

Sunderland, currently at the bottom of the Premier League table, will also face selection challenges. Defender Omar Alderete is suspended following a red card, likely leading manager Regis Le Bris to recall Nordi Mukiele to the starting lineup.
