Sunderland Pursues French Full-Back Dayann Methalie in £25m Deal

Sunderland AFC are in advanced talks to sign 20‑year‑old left‑back Dayann Methalie from Ligue 1 club Toulouse. The French defender recorded two goals and two assists in 30 appearances last season and is regarded as one of the league’s most promising full‑backs. His contract with Toulouse runs until 2030, but the club’s president Olivier Cloarec indicated they would consider a sale for the right fee, reportedly around £25 million.

The Black Cats, who secured promotion to the Premier League and qualified for European competition, view the signing as a key reinforcement for their defence. Manager Regis Le Bris highlighted Methalie’s tackling, passing and versatility, while also noting the challenge of adapting to the Premier League’s physical style.
