Sunderland pursues Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo

Sunderland AFC is intensifying its pursuit of Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo. Following a rejected initial proposal of €30 million fixed plus €10 million in variables, the English club is reportedly preparing a new offer to bridge the gap with the Portuguese side.

Sporting CP has maintained that the player’s €60 million release clause is the only direct route for his departure, though they are expected to entertain negotiations if the fixed fee reaches the €40 million bracket. To entice the Mozambican international, Sunderland is prepared to offer a salary approximately five times higher than his current earnings, potentially increasing his annual pay from €600,000 to €3 million.

As the transfer window approaches its September 4 deadline, Sporting CP faces pressure to secure a replacement for the right-wing position. Meanwhile, Catamo is expected to find the move attractive due to the prospect of playing in the Premier League and competing in European competitions with Sunderland.
