Sundsvall Home Care Worker Arrested on Multiple Sexual Assault Charges

A home‑care employee in Sundsvall municipality has been detained on suspicion of several sexual offences against elderly clients. Prosecutors allege the man committed a rape during a July home‑care visit and a second alleged rape or sexual indecency dating to December 2025, involving two victims. One of the alleged assaults was reportedly recorded on video. The suspect was suspended from his duties after the allegations became public and is now facing possible dismissal.

The case follows a series of high‑profile abuse scandals in Swedish elder‑care services, including prosecutions in Uppsala, Umeå, Timrå and Blekinge. Those incidents have prompted many municipalities to tighten recruitment procedures, and the national government has proposed mandatory criminal‑record checks for staff in the sector.

The investigation is being overseen by the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO), which received a Lex Sarah report detailing the alleged misconduct.
