Sunetra Pawar Faces Maharashtra Congress 'Gungi Gudiya' Insult, Sparks Political Row

The Maharashtra Congress posted a social‑media clip labeling Deputy Chief Minister and NCP president Sunetra Pawar a “gungi gudiya” (silent doll), prompting a sharp backlash. The Nationalist Congress Party condemned the remark as derogatory toward a woman leader, with working president Praful Patel demanding an apology and describing the language as disrespectful. NCP workers entered the Congress Gandhi Bhavan office in Mumbai to protest, while the state’s chief minister Devendra Fadnavis denounced the Congress for low‑brow publicity stunts.

Former Congress chief minister Prithviraj Chavan urged the party to respect women and refrain from such jibes. Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal claimed the protesters intended to incite violence and alleged support from the BJP and police. Sunetra Pawar said she would respond “at the appropriate time,” promising a “fitting reply” when the moment arrives.
