SunExpress introduces voluntary sustainable aviation fuel contributions

SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, has launched a new initiative allowing passengers to make voluntary contributions toward the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Through the Berlin-based SQUAKE platform, travelers can calculate estimated emissions for their specific flight routes and opt to support additional SAF usage. The company noted that these contributions do not offset carbon emissions or make a flight carbon neutral.

In preparation for the COP31 UN Climate Change Conference, which will be held in Antalya from November 9 to 20, 2026, the airline is also implementing local transport incentives. These include a 50 percent discount on bicycle transport fees for international flights arriving in or departing from Antalya, provided they are booked in advance. Additionally, SunExpress is offering a specialized filter on its website to help passengers locate electric vehicle rental options to facilitate greener local travel during the conference period.
