SunExpress began operating a new direct route between Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport in Turkey and Almaty Airport in Kazakhstan. The inaugural flight, XQ822, was a Boeing 737‑800 carrying 177 passengers and was marked by farewell and welcome ceremonies at the two airports.

The service will run twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with both airports managed by TAV Airports Group. Passenger forecasts project about 5.0 million travelers at Izmir and 5.8 million at Almaty by the first half of 2026, and both airports are shortlisted for the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards. TAV Airports Group President Mete Erna said the connection will strengthen tourism, trade and cultural ties between Turkey and Kazakhstan.
