Sungai Lulut road collapse disrupts water supply in Banjarmasin

A section of Jalan Martapura Lama along the Sungai Lulut in Banjarmasin collapsed due to riverbank erosion, creating a large sinkhole that damaged small‑diameter household water‑distribution pipes. PT Air Minum (PTAM) Bandarmasih dispatched a rapid‑response team that inspected the site, confirmed the main water mains were intact, and repaired the leaking service pipes within a 20‑metre stretch, restoring normal water flow to residents.

The provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) of South Kalimantan announced plans to temporarily close the damaged road segment to allow comprehensive repairs. Engineers will dismantle the affected pavement, install stone piles, apply geotextile reinforcement and gradually backfill the area. An alternative route via Jalan Rahayu has been recommended for motorists while the work, expected to take three weeks to a month, proceeds.
