Sungrow launches 150MW/600MWh battery storage plant in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria

On June 12, Sungrow Power Supply Co. and EPC contractor Sunotec commissioned a 150 MW / 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. The plant uses Sungrow’s liquid‑cooled PowerTitan 2.0 modules and is funded through the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy’s RESTOR programme.

The installation is Bulgaria’s first large‑scale stand‑alone storage project. It is intended to provide grid‑level flexibility, support the integration of renewable electricity and strengthen network resilience. Sungrow plans to increase total storage capacity in the country to about 3 GWh by the end of 2026, adding roughly 2.2 GWh in the next two months.

The launch follows a wave of overseas storage contracts for Sungrow, Envision AESC and SUMEC, which together have secured more than 24 GWh of projects across Europe, Latin America and China. “The project reflects the speed at which energy storage becomes an integral part of systems in Southeast Europe,” said Anastasios Gkinis, Vice President of Sungrow Europe.
